Description
Water travels through 4 stages of filtration:
- Stage 1:?Water flows through a 20"" sediment cartridge that removes sediment, silt, sand, and dirt. Also, extends the life of water softeners and water filters, and prevents damage to control valves or pumps.
- Stage 2:?Water flows through an ion exchange mineral tank and brine water conditioner.
- Stage 3: Water flows through a arsenic-reducing mineral tank with ERA? 6500 & 9500 to prevent bacteria growth.?
- Stage 4: Water flows through a 20"" solid carbon cartridge for removing volatile organic carbon compounds (VOC's, insecticides, pesticides and industrial solvents).

Tank 1: Remove Arsenic, Arsenate, and Arsenite from Your Drinking Water
Arsenic (As) enters drinking water supplies from natural deposits in the earth or from agricultural and industrial practices. Surface arsenic-related pollutants enter the groundwater system by gradually moving with the flow of groundwater from rains, melting snow, etc. Arsenic won’t affect the taste or smell of drinking water enough to call attention to such contamination. Like many contaminants in drinking water, arsenic is potentially hazardous at levels or concentrations that do not impart a noticeable taste, odor, or appearance of the water.
Arsenic is not easily dissolved in water. Therefore, if it is found in a water supply, it usually comes from mining or metallurgical operations or from runoff from agricultural areas where materials containing arsenic were used as industrial poisons. Arsenic in water has no color, taste or odor. Arsenic and phosphate easily substitute for one another chemically, therefore commercial grade phosphate can have some arsenic in it. Arsenic is highly toxic and has been classified by the US EPA as a carcinogen, which was derived from toxicity considerations rather than carcinogenicity. The current MCL for arsenic is 0.010 mg/l as of 01/23/06.
Information about arsenic in water can be found on the US Environmental Protection Agency website. Arsenic is a semi-metal element that has no taste, odor, or color, and is not easily dissolved. It occurs naturally in the environment, as a by-product of mining, or agricultural areas when materials containing arsenic are used as industrial poisons. Arsenic is considered highly toxic and a carcinogen.?
Tank 2: Softener
Media may increase hardness in the water?which is why a?water softener?is recommended.?Water is hard when it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium. You may see staining on your sinks, tubs, showers, and clothing. You may also notice less lather from your shampoos and soaps and even a feeling of film on your skin. All these are symptoms of the need for softened water.?Hard water also causes a higher risk of lime scale deposits in household water systems. The negative effect of lime scale buildup is that pipes are blocked and the efficiency of hot boilers and tanks is reduced. This increases the cost of domestic water heating by about fifteen to twenty percent. Another negative effect of limescale is that it has damaging effects on household machinery, such as laundry machines. Water softening means expanding the lifespan of household machines, and the lifespan of pipelines. It also contributes to the improved working and longer lifespan of solar heating systems, air conditioning units and many other water-based applications.
